Windows 8/8.1 is the predecessor operating system for Windows 10. If you have not already upgraded to WIndows 10, then you should be thinking about doing that upgrade now. In addition, there are many new and innovative features available in Windows 10such as the new Windows Edge browser which replaced Windows Explorer. I have a huge number of software packages attached to my computers and a number of peripherals such as printers, scanners, tablets, and other hardware and so far NONE of this hardware has had any problems using Windows 10.
Windows 10 is now available. These videos will explain some of the more important parts of WIndows 10 regarding the security and use of your PC with this new operating system.
Changing the Update Settings in Windows 10 to prevent the installation of Malware
Windows 10 security problem you need to fix NOW
If you upgraded your computer to Windows 10 there is a setting that you need to change NOW to prevent others from using your computer to update their computer and possibly cause your computer to obtain malware from other people's computers. Here is what is happening.
There is a default setting in Windows 10 that was intended to allow you to obtain updates to Windows 10 from other local computers rather than being required to download the updates yourself. This works fine if the only computer you update from are on your home network and if that network is protected by a secure, hardware firewall. However, if you are out in public using your Windows 10 computer and another computer is nearby also using Windows 10 and appears to have an update on it that you need, then your computer will download that update from a stranger's computer and the update from that computer could contain a virus or other kind of malware and harm your computer possibly giving up personal information stored on your computer. Fixing this is easy to do. This video will demonstrate how to make these changes.

Changing the the Settings in Windows 10 to prevent Windows 10 from spying on your text and speech
This is ANOTHER Windows 10 security problem you need to fix NOW
If you upgraded your computer to Windows 10 there is a setting that you need to change NOW to prevent WIndows 10 from spying on your use of both text and speech. Here is what is happening.
There is a default setting in Windows 10 that is initially set up to "Help" you and the folks at Microsoft to get you to make better use of the text and speech interfaces on your computer. If your computer has these settings furned on, then your computer is likely sending virtually everything that you type on your keyboard in ANY application (i.e. eMail and word processing) along to Microsoft silently and in a way that you will never detect. Fixing this is easy to do. This video will demonstrate how to make these changes.

Preventing a TOTAL computer DISASTER
Recently, I had a problem on one of my computers. It began innocently enough. I could not view a video that I uploaded to my GoToWebinar account and attached to a webinar that I was going to give. I have two computers that I can use for webinars so I used the other computer. As I investigated what was going on with the computer having the problem I discovered that my Windows 10 installation was corrupted and I would have to re-image Windows on that computer. Re-image meant that I had to destroy the Windows 10 installation and start from scratch with that computer. Fortunately I had taken precautions that allowed me to quickjly recover everything. These webinars are recordings of the same webinar I gave at 3 different times that describe what I did and what YOU need to do to protect yourself.
